Setting

The world’s highest navigable lake and a cradle of Andean civilization

Reaching Titilaka is part of the experience. Most travelers arrive via Juliaca, a regional airport connected to both Lima and Cusco. From there, it’s a striking 90-minute drive through windswept plains and tiny highland villages to the shores of Lake Titicaca. The lodge sits on a private peninsula at 3,800 meters (~12,500 ft), surrounded by shimmering water, reed marshes, and the quiet rhythms of rural life. Titilaka combines immersive comfort with full-board ease—offering refined meals, thoughtfully curated excursions, and deep cultural connection. With uninterrupted lake views from every room and easy access to both natural and archaeological wonders, it’s a rare and serene base to experience the sacred highlands of southern Peru.

Lodge & Accommodation

Where Panoramic Lake Views Meet High-Altitude Serenity

Titilaka from the water Lounge with Lake views Fresh flowers Cozy sitting area

With only 18 suites, Titilaka offers an intimate and peaceful stay that feels worlds away from the ordinary. The contemporary, low-slung building is designed to harmonize with the surrounding landscape, with large picture windows framing endless views of the lake and skies. Inside, rooms are spacious, bright, and elevated by thoughtful details: polished wooden floors, artisan-made textiles, and curated local crafts that reflect the cultural richness of the region. All suites come with heated floors, oversized soaking tubs, and cozy sitting areas with lake views—ideal for unwinding after a day of high-altitude exploration. I especially appreciated the beds positioned to face the water, so mornings begin with golden light spilling across the lake. In-room amenities include handwoven slippers, herbal teas for altitude, and carefully selected touches that make the space feel both luxurious and rooted. Titilaka doesn’t just offer a room with a view—it offers a sense of place, where every corner is designed to connect you with the spirit of Lake Titicaca.

Culinary

Authentic Andean meals, rooted in tradition and a true farm-to-table philosophy

Restaurant Breakfast

The inviting main lodge serves as the heart of PUQIO, where guests gather for all meals, a soothing cup of muna tea, or a well-earned glass of pisco. All meals are included in the package rates, offering a dining experience that celebrates traditional Andean flavors. Ingredients are primarily sourced from the lodge’s own gardens or nearby farms, ensuring freshness and authenticity. Many dishes are prepared using clay ovens and open flames, infusing each meal with a rich, rustic warmth. Breakfast is a nicely arranged spread featuring local cheeses, cured meats, fresh bread, juices, and rotating hot dishes. Lunch is a multi-course feast, showcasing fresh salads, locally sourced meats, and salmon. On full-day excursions, it transforms into an elegant picnic set in breathtaking locations. One of the most memorable meals for me was the traditional Pachamanca, a time-honored Andean cooking method where meats and vegetables are slow-cooked beneath hot stones. Dinner is a thoughtfully curated four- or five-course set menu, changing nightly to highlight seasonal ingredients and culinary creativity. Portions are generous, and every meal feels like a true celebration of Andean heritage–so be sure to arrive hungry.

Experiences

Exploring the dramatic landscapes and rich cultural heritage

Lake Titicaca Exploring remote parts of the region

A stay at Titilaka is an invitation to connect deeply with Lake Titicaca and its surrounding cultural landscape. Every day is thoughtfully curated around your interests, whether that means visiting ancient ruins, floating islands, or traditional highland communities. The lodge’s expert local guides craft personalized excursions, ranging from boat trips to the Uros and Taquile Islands to guided walks through nearby Aymara villages, where life follows rhythms unchanged for generations. One of the most memorable outings for me was a sunrise canoe ride along the reed-lined shore, the lake still and glowing in soft golden hues. Another highlight was a visit to the pre-Incan site of Sillustani, perched on a windswept hill above a mirror-like lagoon, its circular burial towers telling silent stories of the region’s past. Days here blend cultural immersion with quiet wonder—whether you’re stargazing from the dock, cycling through open puna landscapes, or sharing a moment with a local weaver. And at the end of it all, there’s the stillness of the lake, the comfort of the lodge, and a warm bath to return to.

All You Need to Know

Inspired to plan a stay at Titilaka? Here’s everything you need to know – from the best time to visit the Lake Titicaca and how to get there, to practical tips and contact details to book your stay directly with the hotel.

Best time to go

Seasons

Lake Titicaca is a year-round destination, with each season casting the altiplano in a different light. The dry Gold Season (May to October) is the most popular, offering crisp skies, calm waters, and ideal conditions for exploring by boat or on foot. June to August brings peak travel, with vibrant festivals and chilly nights balanced by sun-filled days. September and October are quieter, with milder temperatures and fewer visitors. The Green Season (November to April) brings occasional rains that transform the landscape into vibrant greens and offer a more tranquil, local rhythm. Morning outings often enjoy clear skies, while afternoon showers are brief and atmospheric. At over 3,800 meters, the weather can shift quickly, so packing in layers is always wise.

Titilaka welcomes guests all year round

Ideal lenght of stay

While two nights offer a taste, I recommend staying 3–4 nights to fully unwind and enjoy the variety of lake and land-based experiences.

Location + Getting there

Titilaka is set on a private peninsula on the western shores of Lake Titicaca, just over an hour from the regional hub of Juliaca, in southern Peru’s altiplano.

Traveling to Peru

Most international travelers arrive in Lima, which is well connected to major cities across North and South America, as well as select European hubs. From Lima, regional flights—primarily with LATAM—link to airports across the country, including Juliaca (JUL), the gateway to Lake Titicaca.

Arriving from Juliaca

The journey from Juliaca Airport to Titilaka takes about 90 minutes and includes both a scenic drive across the altiplano and a short boat crossing on Lake Titicaca, arriving directly at the lodge by water. These seamless transfers are arranged by the lodge and included in the stay.

Arriving from Cusco via Puno

The most memorable way to travel from Cusco is by train, with two services available. PeruRail runs a scenic train every second day, while the luxury Andean Explorer from Belmond operates a weekly journey from Cusco to Puno. Upon arrival at Puno station, it’s about a one-hour drive to the lodge, with transfers organized by the Titilaka team.

Titilaka also pairs well with stays at sister properties like PUQIO in the Colca Canyon or CIRQA in Arequipa, with overland transfers available between these destinations.

Family and Children

There are no age restrictions at the lodge, and children of all ages are welcome to stay. However, the lodge does not offer specific activities for younger children, and the surrounding terrain can be challenging and potentially unsafe. For this reason, it’s best suited for children aged 12 and up.

Accessibility

Titilaka’s remote setting and multi-level layout mean accessibility can be limited. While the main areas and rooms are relatively flat, there may be uneven surfaces and steps throughout the property. It’s best to contact the lodge in advance to discuss specific needs and confirm if accommodations can be arranged.

Good to know, Keep in mind

  • The lodge sits at an elevation of 3,800 meters (12,500 ft), so some guests may experience some symptoms of altitude sickness. The area around Lake Titicaca is often the highest point of a Peru itinerary, so it’s wise to plan time to acclimate beforehand. Spending a night or two in lower-altitude cities like Arequipa or Cusco can make the transition easier.
  • Even during sunny days, the high-altitude air can be brisk, and nights can get very cold. Pack warm layers, including a windproof jacket and hat, especially during the dry season.
  • Titilaka is surrounded by natural terrain and lakeside paths. While most areas are accessible, flat shoes with good grip are recommended for exploring.
  • Rates at Titilaka are all-inclusive, covering accommodation, all meals and drinks (excluding premium alcohol), guided excursions, and airport or train station transfers from Juliaca or Puno.
  • Day trips to Bolivia’s Isla del Sol and Isla de la Luna are possible for an additional charge. These cross-border excursions are full-day experiences and must be arranged in advance with proper travel documents.
  • Foreign visitors to Peru are exempt from the 18% VAT on hotel stays—just be sure to present your passport and immigration card at check-in.
  • Lake excursions are subject to weather conditions, especially during the Green Season (November to April), when brief afternoon rains are common. Most outings still run as scheduled.

Puqio invites you to slow down and just take it all in. The setting is spectacular, and it’s the calm pace, thoughtful design, and connection to the landscape that stand out most. It’s not luxury in the classic sense – but it offers something far more memorable.
